When Alexander the Great visited Diogenes and asked whether he could do anything for the famed teacher, Diogenes replied: 'Only stand out of my light.' Perhaps some day we shall know how to heighten creativity. Until then, one of the best things we can do for creative men and women is to stand out of their light.

New Horizons Home School Academy offers elementary and secondary schooling solutions that fit the personal and academic needs and lifestyles of most students and their families. We offer on-campus and off-campus, home study programs, and we are nationally accredited. To understand the philosophy behind our distinctive teaching methodology, read our Discourse on Education.
Our accredited elementary and high school curricula meet the standard requirements as determined by law and the Texas Education Agency (TEA), and can be modified to meet state requirements for any state in the United States. All curricula, whether for on-campus or off-campus study, address the four core subjects of English, Math, Science, and History at a student’s given grade level as well as select subjects such as Foreign Language, Health, Speech, Communications Skills, Philosophy, and the indispensible Critical Thinking Skills.
The following is a list of some of the programs we offer along with a brief description of each. If there is a particular program that most interests you or most suits your needs, click on it for more information. We also invite you to contact us should you want further information or to receive a free consultation regarding enrollment.

On-Campus Study featuring a small classroom environment for grade levels 1st through 12th. Space is limited. Call for availability.
Off-Campus Home Study program, which we call the HomeWork Program℠. This program is excellent for students who travel frequently, students who prefer home study over the public teaching systems, young adolescent girls who are pregnant but want to complete their schooling, or students who, for a myriad of other reasons, just simply prefer to study at home. Programs available for students in 1st through 12th grades. Enrollment is equivalent to enrollment in any accredited, private school and is also available to out-of-state home schooling students (see our Home Schooling Laws and Frequently Asked Questions pages). What is the cost?
The FastTrack Program℠ is a college preparatory program that allows a student to complete high school in a minimum of two (2) and maximum of three (3) years. This program is available to on-campus or off-campus students who meet the criteria. What is the cost?
The Grad Program℠ is for the high school student lacking five (5) or less credits for graduation. This is also an excellent program for any ADULT seeking to complete high school. Adults seeking to enlist in one of the branches of the military benefit from this or the FastTrack Program℠. This program can be done on-campus or off-campus. What is the cost?
The RightTrack Program℠ is created for students who have had disciplinary problems or a disciplinary record in other private or public schools. Available to on-campus and limited off-campus students (please see below). What is the cost?
The Orchard Classroom℠ is a non-traditional study environment that is highly recommended for students who are not doing well in a traditional classroom setting. This would include children with learning disabilities, social disabilities or a very poor record of academics. This is strictly an on-campus program. What is the cost?
English as a Second Language (ESL) NHHSA℠ offers ESL Classes for children or ADULTS. Applicants for this program can select a private, one-on-one, class setting or home study. Private, one-on-one classes are scheduled by appointment. Call or email for more information, cost, appointment availability, or to schedule your assessment. Appointment times fill up fast.
On-campus students enjoy a small classroom environment in a well-structured and well-disciplined, yet relaxed–setting. Students work on their personal study programs at a pace that is individually supervised. The learning environment is transactional, that is, it is a result of a two-way interaction between educator and pupil. Certain grade levels also benefit from an interactive, group lecture environment for Verbal, Non-Verbal & Written Communication Skills, Critical Thinking Skills, and Mathematics. Space is always limited for on-campus study, so please call for availability.
The HomeWork Program℠ is a unique schooling program developed especially for students who, for whatever reason, experience greater academic gains while studying in their home environment. Enrollment in this program is equivalent to enrollment in any accredited, private school. Study assignments are tailored to meet student requirements on a student-by-student basis and are given to the student as a monthly syllabus. All HomeWork Program℠ assignments are issued in hard copy, and are created to be student friendly.
Programs for out-of-state students are modified to fit their state's requirements.
The HomeWork Program℠ is an excellent option for:
Students who prefer home study
Military families who travel or re-locate often yet want to stabilize their student's academic routines
Teens who want to work while completing high school
Pregnant teens
Adults who want to acquire their High School Diploma
The FastTrack Program℠ is a college preparatory program that allows a student to complete high school in a minimum of two (2) and maximum of three (3) years. All high school graduation requirements remain intact but are programmed at a higher level of intensity of study, allowing the student to exceed the average quantity of monthly work completed and a faster completion for graduation. Although it is recommended for students with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.40 (90%) or for students who successfully completed Advanced Placement (AP) classes in middle school, any student can apply to be accepted into this program on a probationary basis. This program is available to both on-campus and off-campus HomeWork Program℠ students.
The Grad Program℠ is essentially for the high schooler lacking five (5) or less credits for graduation. Both on-campus or HomeWork Program℠ students are eligible. The program targets only the must-have subjects and credits that the student needs, laying out a curriculum which addresses these exclusively and that allows the student to complete the requisite study in step with her own capabilities. It is a quick, but thorough, graduation solution that eliminates the fluff of added, unnecessary requirements and allows any student the ability to complete studies and receive a diploma without the need for state-run, public-school mandated testing. (The state of Texas does NOT require private school students to pass the TAKS test as a pre-requisite to graduation, and colleges or universities do not require this testing for enrollment.)
The NHHSA℠RightTrack Program℠ is created for students who have had disciplinary problems, a disciplinary record or other behavioral problems, students with moderate focus and productivity problems, students with ADD or ADHD or, in some cases, students who have been diagnosed with a Pervasive Disability Disorder such as Asperger's or Autism. It is exclusively available to on-campus students or HomeWork Program℠ students who live in the El Paso area or neighboring communities and can be done in combination with any other program listed herein. Students are recommended for this program at the discretion of the Director of the NHHSA℠.
All students are welcome to set a new beginning in motion at NHHSA℠ but are required to participate in our martial arts program. On the RightTrack Program℠ the academic curriculum remains standard and is augmented with a martial arts curriculum that directly addresses focus, discipline, coordination, and attitude difficulties.
Not all students are able to follow the same pattern of schooling required of the general student population. Learning or social disabilities, classroom anxiety, and/or a history of poor or traumatic schooling experiences can each adversely impact a student's scholastic performance and even the student's desire to learn.
New Horizons Home School Academy℠ has created a classroom environment and program specifically dedicated to working with these children. Called the Orchard Classroom℠, this program works under the skilled guidance and alternative schooling practices created by psychologist Raquel Haydee Holguin, who has compiled a teaching methodology that in part incorporates elements from the School of Gestalt and Experiential Teaching, right-brain development schemes, and other structured teaching strategies that help a student improve his or her learning, communication, social relations and daily living skills.
For these children, scholastic attention is not grade-based. In fact, students in the Orchard Classroom℠ receive no grades at all. Rather, this classroom is based on a focus-intensive objective intended to teach students to overcome learning obstacles that obscure their academic and personal ability, with an eye toward moderating a student's desire to learn. Essentially, our sights are set on their regained motivation to study and improved social skills. Achievement is gauged by their self-integration into a learning environment and their responsible interaction in social settings.
Class size is strictly limited to 10 students. Students must apply and be accepted into this program. Tuition charges differ from other New Horizons Home School Academy tuition costs. You may call and speak with our registrar, or contact us for further information.
The Orchard Classroom℠ is an on-campus program only.
Physical Education
NHHSA℠ Physical Education classes consist of a well-rounded martial arts program. Students learn and practice the Koryukan style of martial arts as developed by Professor Sal Moralez. The Koryukan style brings together the essential practices and characteristics of karate-do, kobudo (traditional martial arts weapons such as sword and bo staff), jujutsu, Korean, Filipino & Chinese martial arts. Students may take the martial arts as an elective at any time. Students who require P.E. Credits are required to take it. There is an additional tuition fee for all students taking martial arts as a part of their academic curriculum whether the classes are being taken as an elective or as a required subject. Out-of-state students would need to make other arrangements for Physical Education, and these could include organized sports where verification of attendance is feasible.
There is good news for home school graduates seeking to enlist in any branch of the Armed Services.
An amendment to Section 522 of Senate Bill 1042 requires the Secretary of Defense to create a uniform policy of recruitment to include home school graduates for all four branches of the Armed Services. The new law makes it clear that home schooled students do not have to obtain a GED (which carries the stigma of being a dropout) in order to enlist. This bill was signed into law by President Bush in January 2006.
Section 591 of Public Law 109-163, the National Defense Authorization Act requires all four branches of the Armed Forces to institute a uniform recruitment policy for home school graduates and to communicate this policy down to the recruiting officer level. New Horizons Home School Academy℠ helps put your credits in order so that you can earn your High School diploma quickly and enlist in one of the branches of the Armed Forces without losing any more time. Likewise, if you have earned all of your high school credits but did not earn your diploma because you were unable to pass a standardized test, call us. We can help. And the process is easier than you would imagine.
Enrollment in New Horizons Home School Academy℠ is on-going, and students are welcome to enroll at any time throughout the scholastic year and in the summer. On-campus enrollment is limited, so you must call for space availability.
NHHSA℠ also offers a complete summer program for students who need to catch up on their credits (high school), for students who wish to enhance their academics or for students desiring to get a leg up on the next scholastic year (all grade levels).
The school honors all work a student has completed and all credits earned up until the moment of enrollment irrespective of whether or not the student transfers at the end of a semester. Mid-semester transfers with applicable credits are acceptable. Please contact one of our facilitators for answers to any of your questions.
NHHSA℠ aspires to provide students of any age, creed, race, or socio–economic background academically superior home schooling curricula designed not only to achieve excellence in study performance on a child–to–child basis but also to encourage a love and an appreciation for learning.
For a free consultation on your student's personal needs, please contact the HomeWork Program℠ Director at (915)856-7243 or Toll Free at (866)224-0218.
